" I am fascinated by the journey of becoming; the journey of constantly oscillating between our "roots"—where we come from, and the layers of our historical memory— and our "place" that we stand in now —the one that mirrors our present feelings and state of. being — to define ourselves.

For me, the point where becoming reveals itself is when creation happens, when something flows through my hands and takes shape outside of me. Whether it emerges as body adornments or as paint on canvas, it is born into the world through the journey of my becoming.

I started my artistic path as a jewelry maker and designer, and over time, I have expanded my platforms of expression to include painting and sculpture as well — and I look forward to where this journey will take me in the future. "

"The passion" revealed itself early in my childhood — when I made miniature furniture for my dolls or crafted jewelry out of clay for myself. That's when I realized how much I loved making things with my hands!

Childhood art creation

Later, my first steps into a professional path as a handmade jewelry artist began in my high school years, around 2006 — practicing beading and making accessories. Meanwhile, I started selling my pieces at pop-up markets for almost eight years. That experience helped me connect with all kinds of customers and sparked my curiosity for the business side of my artistic journey. I kept attending those markets well into my university years.

Then I entered the Art University of Tehran, majoring in Handicrafts… and I wanted to doliterally everything! Aside from university — where we practiced working with diverse materials and techniques such as textile, glass, metal, clay, printmaking, and more — I also pursued my specific passion for jewelry and earned a separate diploma in Gold and Silversmithing. And voilà — my wonderland began.

Before graduating from university, I opened my jewelry studio and rebranded my work asKhorshid Joulaee Jewelry Studio— which is still running today — collaborating with galleries to showcase and sell my pieces. Meanwhile, I curated a few group exhibitions and organized pop-ups.

Soon after university, I co-founded a new jewelry brand calledKouben, where I worked as both manager and creative director — one of my most valuable learning curves in business. DuringKouben's five-year journey, we designed, made, and sold two main collections with more than a hundred designs in total.

Working with my mentor,Abdolnaser Giv, and learning from such an incredible artist since my university years made my journey rich with new artistic experiences. Beyond jewelry, he introduced me to new realms of art — likepainting. I never thought I could fit myself onto a flat canvas, but in this ongoing process of change and becoming, I started painting as my second profession around 2020… and have been finding more of myself ever since!
